FIGURE DRAWING :: The Ladybro.

Whoa, who’s that angry lady? Last night I sat in on a painting session with my friend Dylan Chorneau, who was painting my other friend Kelly Keith. While getting to draw a model for a couple of hours is pretty great, and MONSTROUSLY instructive, drawing someone you know is tricky-so-tricky. I think I wasted fifteen minutes just trying to draw her #%&@! nose. Worrying about likeness is for suckers (as long as I can’t do it), but pretty important (when I can).

Slowly I’m starting to figure out how to make small marks, to indicate contours and light rather than trying to draw each line. The problem is that I LOVE to draw each line, so it’s a struggle. But a pleasant one for now–and fortunately, I have no plans to earn a living at figure-drawing, so it’s a stress free way to improve my OTHER drawing skills.
