NEW STRIP :: "Great Indian Heroes: Cochise"

Ah Cochise. Greatest of the Apache warriors, or at least my favorite. Also very entertaining to draw. Also a great murderer, like most of the U.S. Army and pretty much everyone else in this country in the 19th century. I wouldn’t say I’m particularly LESS patriotic than the next guy, especially now that my country has elected a black president who is TOTALLY AWESOME, but I will say this: reading up on Indian wars will really punch your patriotism right in the nuts. Not to mention disembowelling your love of great Apache warriors. Whew!

    Très Blain! Looks great… especially the coloring.

    Yeah, you got me there, Ben. I was DEFINITELY trying to pick some Gus & His Gang colors. I almost pulled the book out, but I thought that would be too discouraging. I don't know anything about color theory, and even this highly simple job took so long–I knew I would end up being a week late if I compared it.

    I WILL say that, while I'm slowly getting a little better at using blacks, moving someone's eye around with color is way more complicated, and I freely admit that I'm utterly lost, and just taking potshots at things.

    I also know pretty much zero about color… so I just throw stuff down and see what sticks. (As with this for example:

    )

    But I'm planning to do my next book in color if possible… and I'll be doing some HEAVY cribbing from "Issac the Pirate."

    i wasn't sure you'd see this where i first posted it [below your best comics posting], so pardon my redundancy:

    as promised, here's a link to the piece in which i propose an alternative to 'graphic novel.' an edited version ran in last sunday's atlanta journal-constitution, but my editor cut out my alt label.

    love to hear your opinion[s]!
