NEW STRIP :: POISON IVY, Pages 1-2

Beginning this week, a new story which will be 10 pages I think, or at least that’s how many in the strip. I might drag it out an extra page depending on how the panels shake out.

I’m more excited about this story than usual, because for the first time I’m starting to get closer to the kind of simple, clean, open style I want, without all the gobbledygook and crosshatching and stuff I normally throw in there to cover for bad composition. The extra plus is that it’s much faster to do pages when you fill big spaces with white or black instead of a million useless details. Progress feels good! I hope you guys like it.

  2. Wow – as soon as the image loaded, I immediately thought to myself – "I like that style." Looking forward to this series.

I'm in agreement, Dustin. This is a very fresh style that you handle very well. And I believe this style is perfectly suitable for great story telling.

Sure, sometimes I like to see some intense hatch-work on an elephant, but you know, it really doesn't progress the story a single lick, now does it? Leave that for your illustration gigs. ;-)

Also, I love the suggestion of color and texture. Please keep running with this style/approach and let's see where it goes. I think that you'll be quite happy with it. I know I dig it!

Wowee, look at all them blisters. Someday perhaps you and Gabby Schultz can have a contagious skin malady off and just fill pages with those little nasties.

Thanks dudes. Y'all are sweet dudes.

Henry I wish I could draw blisters like Gabby–I thought about pulling Monsters out to see how he did it, but our styles are so close already I would just end up aping him the rest of the way. Hmm, might be an improvement though.
