Whoa, two blog posts in two days?! Well, perhaps my guilt over not having my strip done yet is just THAT strong. Actually no, I don’t feel guilty at all. I mean, has feeling guilty ever done YOU any good? Of course not.
I just finished pencilling this badboy finally, so I’ll start inking tonight and be done in a couple of days, I think. I’m really excited about this one, actually–it’s a different style for me, and one that that’s been pretty fun to ink so far in my sketchbook, so we’ll see how it turns out. In the meantime, in lieu of a strip, please accept this bit of one of the great masters of American music, Mr. John Coltrane, with his quartet and guest star Eric Dolphy. I’ve been listening to a ton of Coltrane lately, especially a recent slue of live recordings I’ve, er, obtained, and it’s pretty much the best music ever.

DHARBIN, I have the full vid of this Coltrane post. Ripped for iPhone too. Gotta love mobile Coltrane.
Man, James–I think my eyes would melt to watch video on my iPhone–although it's crammed with Coltrane mp3's right now. The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings is pretty amazing, a great buy. I should give a shoutout to local record store Lunchbox Records, which has a PRIMO used jazz selection, as well as a healthy number of little mini-box sets like this one.
Can you tell me where Lunchbox Records is– I must fore go a meal or two and get the Coltrane set.
Secondly, I would love to commission a portrait and pose for you, but I can see now I will need to wear a cup.
Lunchbox is near the Dairy Queen on Central, like maybe 2 doors down toward town on the same side of street? Tell them Dustin sent you, although I don't think that gets you anything. If you want to save money, get "Afro Blue/Impressions" a mostly live 2-CD compilation that's among my most-played Coltrane albums. The versions of Naima and Impressions are ELECTRIC!
This new style reminds me of a potent combo of George Price (New Yorker) and Bill Holman. Two radically different styles that combine to make something exciting and new!
Please keep up the good work!!
