WELCOME BACK! :: Blog Moves To WordPress, Millions Rejoice

Okay, so this is my first post using WordPress, so we’ll have to see if everything works okay.  I’ve been wrestling with CSS for the last few days, but I think I have things at least in the area code I’d like them, and can fine-tune later.  I’m pretty psyched that I’m able to host my blog right here on good ole dharbin.com, so it’s worth some hiccups and growing pains.

Here’s an image, just to see if it works:

Members of the 2008 United Square Dancer's Association (USDA)
Members of the 2008 United Square Dancer Association (USDA)

Hopefully that worked.  I guess we’ll see. Good gravy there are a lot more choices than on Blogger. I’ll have to fool around with these for now, I guess.

But in the meantime: if you’ve followed me over here from Blogger, I’d appreciate it if you’d do one of two things for me, gentle reader: 1) if you don’t mind, leave a little comment just so I know you’re out there, things are working. Not to mention giving me an idea of how many people are looking at this thing. I’m sure it will be an anemic number, but I’m planning on increasing that, so it’ll be useful to have a sort of starting line. 2) If you see anything weird looking or screwed up, especially if you’re using a non-Internet Explorer browser, please don’t hesitate to let me know, either in the comments, or (if you want to cuss me) in an e-mail.

And in either/both cases, thanks for your continued patience as I screw with things. I’m building up a small backlog of strips in the meantime, so that when I “unveil” my new site and begin publishing weekly strips, I’ll have a buffer of a few strips.

  1. I followed you. I think it works. I see your sexy picture. Added new link to my googlie reader. (Damn thing don't read nothin' for me. I have to read it all myself. Seems like it should be able to read the stuff and shoot it into my brain. Oh well, can't have everything.)

  2. LOOKA says:

    SHNAZY PAZY! LOOKIN' GOOD!

I still have to get used to the "Wordpress" thing but else: APPROVED, BIG TIME! The only thing screwed up is the thing around the blog, my old computer that is!

I'm looking forward to reading all your new strips, Dustin!

  3. Neil says:

    1) I looked at it twice if that helps.

    2) Besides that picture, nothing wierd looking or screwed up to report. Looks good.

  4. Neil says:

Oops. I did notice something. When you click on "blog" under the name of your site (other choices being strip, buy art, etc.), it opens up a new window. It think it would be better to open the page in the same window. You can probably go into the link properties and change that. New window may be the default. I'm not familiar with WordPress, but I know FrontPage has those options.

    Looks good.

Man that picture is disturbing, on several levels. If I we're a band, I'd want it for my album cover.

  5. admin says:

Actually Neil, I have that little strip of navigation in the top left corner in a little iframe, so if I don't make the linked file open in a new window, it would open in that tiny little box (which you can't see) up there.

Although I have some ideas in that direction, but GOOD GOD am I tired of looking at CSS code.

  6. Rach says:

Well, if I can't enjoy your humorous musings in person in the office, then at least I can read about them. Your site looks good.

  7. Thanks, Rachel! Good to hear from an original Insignia Queen!

  8. Liz B. says:

I'm here! I'm reading! Hi Dustin!!

You know what's funny is I realized I know a guy named Dustin (you), a Rustin, and a Justin and I don't think any of you know each other. I wonder if the world would collapse if you all high fived at once?

  9. Ryan says:

Oh, to see your glowing face in person would be to remove the thorn from my heart.

  10. You guys = too kind.

Liz, seriously, Rustin? I've definitely been called Justin and Rusty a LOT, but never Rustin–I love it! You should tell him to make his top 40 friends all be named Rusty or Rustin. Trust me, it's totally cool.

  11. Kristin says:

    1) It looks hawt, ESPECIALLY the picture!!!!

    2) What exactly does "Members of the 2008 United Square Dancer" mean?
Like you are all members of one, large, United Square Dancer or something?

  12. Kristin says:

OOOooo! I love the "Where's Dharbo?" feature!
    Very fun!

  13. We form one giant square-dancer, like Voltron.

It was supposed to be "…Square Dancer Association"; either I screwed up or it cut off the caption. Stupid caption.

    bounced right on in…

1> this thin text on white background is painful after a day of staring at a computer screen. your blogger-grey background is much easier to read.

2> the MORE SKETCHES, STILL FREE title on the main blog page is wonked a bit to the right-hand side. likely a simple formatting issue.

    keep up the good work!

  15. Hell-Oh, Arlene! Get it? That's good material there.

Blake, unfortunately the design of this site closely mirrors my own personality: overly bright, potentially eyestraining, and mildly irritating after awhile. Plus this grey-on-white is easy to fool with while I'm teaching myself CSS (or, more correctly, being taught by Rich Barrett).

    Consider yourself sued, dickhole.
I already called Judge Judy, and guess what?
    SHE'S INTO IT!

  17. Dylan F'ing Cho says:

    Consider yourself sued, dickhole…

  18. Consider yourself sued.

  19. Myk says:

I followed you. I followed you.

It´s strange. Last time I did that I got a letter from her lawyer, but… that´s a story for another time.

I love the whiteness of it all; looking good.
