HOLIDAY PRINT SALE, GET YER PRINTS EH

Hot bananas! I’m going to do a short print sale, from now until Monday, Dec 19th at 2pm Monday, January 2 at 2pm. It’s very simple; three ingredients in this magical recipe, that’s how simple:

1. Four different prints will be shipped with an additional print free. Each of these will ship via Priority Mail for domestic orders, so they should definitely arrive before Friday, December 23rd. International orders, you should order as soon as you can, and I can’t make any guarantees about timing. I think if you order in the next few days you should be good though.

2. All orders totaling $75 or more will get free shipping, regardless of destination. Just enter the discount code FREESHIPPING if your subtotal is over $75, and bask in the savings!

3. All orders totaling $100 or more will get a free one-hour drawing. Note that while it’s “called” a one-hour drawing, they almost always take longer than an hour, and I have other things to do during the day, so if you want to get it before Christmas, order earlier rather than later!

Okay, the prints in question. Click the title link or the image to go to the relevant page in my store. Feel free to mix and match, I’ll figure it all out. I’m smart!

Buy a BEHOLD THE DINOSAURS print and I’ll give you a print featuring the cast of a certain movie about a police officer with a very special uniform, in the great city of Detroit!

Buy a THE DEVIL YOU KNOW print and I’ll throw in a DEEP IN THE HEART OF THE FOREST print. That spooky cabin is probably the most popular thing I’ve made, isn’t that weird?

Buy a THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS print and I’ll throw in a LORD SNOW’S WOLF print. If you’re into A Song of Ice and Fire, that’s good for you! And if you’re not into it, but like wolves and trees: still good!

Buy a LITTLE DREAMS, BIG BOOKCASE print and I’ll toss you a free THE FATES, SO KIND, SO CRUEL print. Note that the latter is pretty tiny, just 4″ x 3.5″. Before you get all mad.

Okay! Remember to order sooner if you’re nervous, especially if you’re in Canada. Mail from my house to Toronto seems to take just under 2 weeks generally, but you never know with holiday hubbub. And feel free to spread this around, I won’t get mad!

SOME THINGS TO BUY AND TO LOVE

Tis the season! The season for selling off your possessions! Or in this case, just one really nice possession, and then some old original art. The swanky part is an Ebay auction, the rest you can just email me and order direct. First the swanky part:

PROCESS RECESS VOLUME 1 COVER PROOF, MATTED AND FRAMED

Oo-wee, hurts to get rid of this. It was originally a gift, which drives me crazy. I won’t say anything else! I hate selling it, but that’s how it goes. The dimensions are roughly 23.5″ x 12.25″, including the frame and everything. You can bid on it or get more info or what-have-you right here.

—–

Okay now the art–I’ll mark things that sell as SOLD, so if it’s not marked SOLD, just email me to get it. My email address is at the top of the sidebar at right–I’d type it out but I don’t need any more spam. These are mainly things that either haven’t sold yet, or are big enough that they’re a hassle to cart around with me to shows. So I’m selling them as cheap as I can, just to clear space and turn these things into a different kind of stacked paper. Shipping will be $5 domestic, $10 international. If you want multiple things, let me know–the shipping won’t go up. Also of course, feel free to take the opportunity to get any of my prints or books or what-not–I won’t charge you any extra for shipping. And vice versa–if you were thinking of ordering one of my prints, just let me know and I’ll package it up and not charge you shipping twice. My goodness what a savings!

1. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PHOTO SWIPE: THE NANSEN EXPEDITION | $40

Sometimes I draw pictures out of National Geographic, just to warm up and study really nice photographs for composition and so forth. They never turn out that well, but this one didn’t turn out so bad–I started it two years ago, and just pulled it out and finished it this morning. 8.5″ x 7″ on a nice cream drawing paper.

—–

2. KC GREEN WATERCOLOR PORTRAIT | SOLD

Perfect for that fantasy/webcomics fetishist in your life! I love KC Green, both the man and his comics. And who doesn’t love centaurs? Who?? This was originally a 1-hour drawing I decided needed more work, so I colored it with watercolors this morning. 7″ x 8.5″ on cold press Strathmore 500 bristol.

—–

3. DIARY COMICS #1 FRONT COVER ART | SOLD

This was is the uncolored art from the front cover. It measured approximately 10″ x 12″, and is a very nice, clean piece of art. There are blue lines still visible, but not in a bad way, do you know what I mean? I like to see artists’ pencils, but that’s just me.

Like many people, I’m not a big fan of old work, and this is what? A year and a half old now? But I’m still proud of it, it turned out nice. Almost without exception, the simpler I make things the more I like them, which is at odds with my brain’s weird compulsion to just stuff everything with marks and lines and details.

I’m also glad I was able to show successfully how beautiful my feet are.

—–

4. DHARBIN! #1 COVER AND SKETCH PAGE COMPOSITE | $10

I think this was the original cover for the first printing of my first minicomic, but then I moved the sketch area to the first page and isolated the balloons part on the cover by itself. This was way back in 2008! I’ve come a long way, baby.

—–

5. WHOOPASS SPOT ILLO | $5

This was a magazine illustration for an article about office-supply stealers getting a can of “Whoopass” opened up on them. Be warned!

—–

6. HEAVEN! | $10

A couple years ago, I was guest artist at the Partyka site. I weirdly chose to work all in colored pen and do themed drawings around “What Heaven Looks Like”. My mind is nuts! I sold all the others but this poor lonely one. Left out of heaven!

—–

7. MAGAZINE SWIPE #1 | $10

Also in 2009, I went on a brief run of drawing models in magazines in order to improve at drawing women (it didn’t work). This one and the next two are all 8.5″ x 11″ on cream cardstock.

—–

8. MAGAZINE SWIPE #2 | $5

Girls in magazines need to put on some weight. Especially after they get drawn by me.

—–

9. MAGAZINE SWIPE #3 | $5

Smells like.. fashion!

—–

Okay! That’s it! Just email me if you want any of these, with or without stuff from my regular store. Thanks for looking!

DIARY COMICS #2 AT TCAF #2011

DIARY COMICS #2 is here, just in time for its debut at this year’s Toronto Comic Arts Festival. Made with 100% Koyama Press goodness, folded and stapled and scored by yours truly, this little marvel of the modern age of mundanity is available for sale right here for $10, and will start shipping once I return from Canada, my suitcases stuffed with maple leaves (their version of money).

UPDATE! I decided that the first 50 orders or so of the “Sketched Edition”–WHILE SUPPLIES LAST–will get a free original diary strip. It’ll be one of the ones dated August 31 or earlier, by my choice and at my discretion. You can see the list of available strips here, if you’d like to make a suggestion. But I caution you that you’ll probably not get the one you want at this point. Hey it’s free–so sit back and enjoy getting a little piece of original art.

You can see all the details, as well as the $15 version where I draw something nice on the title page, at the product listing. There’s a little slideshow on my Tumblr that you might enjoy. Or if you like things to move a little more fastly, I made a little video to go with it:

Honestly, I’m so excited for TCAF that I’m about to lose my mind. Hopefully I’ll be making a lot of money and selling stuff like crazy, but also there are SO MANY amazing people to visit with there, not to mention the gorgeous city of Toronto, just awaking to its own Ontarian spring, a full two months after it started here in North Carolina. TCAF’s place in early May, combined with its latitude, means that a side-benefit of the show for me is getting to relive my favorite part of my favorite season, when things are just starting to open up and bloom, and the people are looking around sleepily, just newly awakened from the long winter. Mmm, Toronto in Spring!

Speaking of spring, I am hoping to make a ton of money! I’ll have a bunch of stuff, including:

DIARY #2 (as mentioned above, in its World Debut)
DIARY #1 (I only have about 60 left of the print run, so this is soon to become a Collectible Item
PRINTS GALORE, including all these guys, which sub-includes this one below:

I only mention this one again because only one of them has sold, and this is one of my favorite things I’ve ever drawn. You dummies! You just don’t know quality OBVSLY!!

Let’s see, what else? I’ll have my newspaper, which Rob Clough reviewed today here, my tooth t-shirt, a ton of original art, and anything else I can think of that I can turn to money.

And somewhere in the middle of that I’ll be spending some too–there’s a new Chester Brown book, Emily Carroll prints and a mini (plus her!), Joe Lambert’s new book.. man. Gonna be hard not to spend money :( I’ll figure something out! Anyway, I’ll be at table 142 with the mighty Anne Koyama, and my Koyamabros Michael Deforge, Steve Wolfhard, David Huyck, and a bunch more presumably.

So excited you guys! But for now, channel that excitement into buying my new book!

PRINT :: The Weight

Now available for purchase  over at my lil Dharbmart, this new print: a 8.5″ x 7″ illustration of just how unique and special and fragile each of us is… in the cosmic sense. It looks black and white, but it’s printed in color to get all that cosmic nuance in there. All on nice chunky paper for $15 bucks. Originally done as one of my one-hour drawings, this one took a bit more than an hour, so I thought I’d ask it to work some extra for me. If you like it, I suggest you buy it! Go on do it!

PRINTS: LIKE ORIGINAL ART, BUT CHEAPER/BETTER

Now available in my store, six new prints for you to purchase and put all over your house and car and work and your neighbor’s house and cars! So versatile! They all come from my continuing series of One Hour Drawings, but with a few of them I’ve added a limited color palette. Here’s a secret: I completely stole the palette from Seth’s gorgeous Clyde Fans book, which I’ve been reading. That book is one of the most gorgeously produced books I’ve ever read, the art is extraordinary, the printing is immaculate, the design is crisp and sharp and elegant.

Wait what were we talking about! Oh yes, the prints! They’re all available here, but here are some smaller images to wet your whistle, along with links to the individual store listing. I’m pretty proud of these, and I think you’ll be happy with them (if you buy them) and despondent (if you don’t).

Top image, “Deep In The Heart Of The Forest” | $15

Little Dreams, Big Bookcase” | $12

President’s Day” | $7

The Fates, So Kind, So Cruel” | $6

King Mountain” | $10

The Treehouse Of Your Dreams” | $10

Okay that’s all of them for now! Thanks to all those who’ve already purchased, and especially to the people who’ve been spreading these images around from my Tumblr, where I posted them initially. You guys: the best!

THESE BOOKS WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY AND ME LESS POOR

Hello! If you’re reading this, then I must be poor! To help pay my rent, 10 days late as of this writing, I’m going to sell off some of my things on Ebay this week. But I thought I’d give you, Loyal Friends Of The Internet, first crack at them. In pretty much all cases, they’re in primo condition; if not, I’ll make a note of it. But I take care of my stuff. If you have any questions or would like to buy anything, drop me an email and we’ll have ourselves a palaver. I’m going to put these up on Ebay on Saturday, but until then I’ll mark anything that sells as sold on here! All these prices below include shipping costs within the US–for Canada or elsewhere, I’ll charge whatever USPS rate is cheapest.

Thanks in advance if you’re able to buy anything–I appreciate the help, and I suspect you’ll appreciate the books (if you’re smart).  Okay here are the books!

ABSOLUTE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN VOLUME 1 SLIPCASE
$200

Hubba hubba! That’s a lot of cheddar, but these things seem to be going for a lot on Ebay, between 250 and 400 apparently. This one is totally brand new, still wrapped in the plastic. Two volume slipcase of one of the best comics Alan Moore ever wrote! I’m not actually sure what’s in the second volume exactly, lots of extras and script and sketchbook stuff I think. The book is oversized and wayyy out of print and probably never to return in this form, due to Alan Moore hating the ess out of DC Comics.

WATCHMEN SLIPCASE, 1987 GRAPHITTI EDITION
$100

Another rarity! The book is in pretty much perfect condition, but the slipcase has a scuff on it, as seen in the picture. What the heck, it’s almost 25 years old, I am a human Dharbin, these things happen. Watchmen sure is good, but this edition is for collector’s and uber Watchmen types. Or people with $100.

VAGABOND, volumes 1-24 + 27
sold!

Vagabond is a pretty awesome series by Takehiko Inoue, a retelling/adaptation of the Musashi story, one of the great stories of Japanese literature. And whoa, the art! So good. I hate to let these go, but I’ve only read the first 10 or so, and it could be a billion years before I get the time to read the rest. Most of these are still wrapped in their plastic, and they’re all in great shape. Note that at a minimum cover price of $9.95 apiece, my price is less than half of the cover price, and most of these are brand new. Whoa nellie!

BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS by Kim Deitch
sold!

Out of print and hard to find, this is supposed to be one of the greatest graphic novels ever! It probably is, too. Sometimes I just don’t twig to stuff like I ought to. But I fully expect to eventually. For now, this book  is out of print and super rare… and thus represents dollar signs in my eyes. Look for me to lament this sale some time next year when I realize my mistake.

BIG QUESTIONS #3-5, 7-11 by Anders Nilsen
sold!

Oh man! These are so good, sooo good, Anders Nilsen is the bomb-diggety and that’s no lie you foo. Some of these are pretty scarce too–sold as a set.

DICK TRACY REPRINTS (Pacific Comics Club editions)
$50
for all 16 or individually at $5 apiece

These reprint in black and white the old Dick Tracy newspaper comic, from back in the dark ages before those big fancy hardcovers started coming out. They were originally $9, which wasn’t bad back then. But if you want to read some Dick Tracy books cheap, get up on these pieces.

ASSORTED DICK TRACY REPRINTS (non-Pacific editions)
$25 for all 10  or $5 apiece

Same as above, just a slightly different group. Feel free to email me with questions. I’ll talk to ya!

DICK TRACY IN THE THIRTIES
$20

Cool old reprint! Strips from the early years, with some supplemental material. I would have priced this at $15 except for the free shipping thing.

DICK TRACY STAMPS
$10

Can you tell I was super into Dick Tracy for awhile? I’ve had these stamps since I bought them… on Ebay years ago in a fit of Tracyian love. There’s a Chief.. um, I forgot his name? How embarassing! The dude at the beginning, that dude. And of course my main man Junior, plus Dick Tracy, stone cold crimefighter.

PHANTOM REPRINTS by Lee Falk
$10

4 books for $10! How bad could they be? They’re pretty good actually! I loved The Phantom when I was a kid, that guy is like a creepy jungle Batman combined with the Shadow combined with.. me! Man I’m a tough, secretly wealthy, son of a gun. The Dharb That Walks!

Okay my peeps! Hope you dig on this stuff, I think you’ll love it! And I will love some/any/all of the money. Hopefully /all.

THANKS, YO!

Man, you guys! The response to my little One Hour Drawing offer has been pretty great, I think I’ve sold a little over 30 of them, with 22 up so far in this Flickr set. If you’ve bought one and haven’t received it yet, thanks for your patience! I’m squeezing them in between lettering Casanova and working on illustration projects, and occasionally sleeping.

SPEAKING of illustration projects, if you’re an art director or are chummy with one, I would humbly point out that most of these drawings are essentially spot illos–I feel like they’d look quite nice in your magazine or on your blog or in your fancy iPad magazine/blog hybrid. As long as you are paying money, they will look nice, I assure you. If you’re on Tumblr, they probably look best there, but there’s always the Flickr set that collects the whole group of them.

SPEAKING of being broke, you may have noticed my DIARY comics have been slowing down in frequency a little, which is a side effect of having to scramble to make ends meet. I’m behind on a lot of projects, but no project moreso than that one. The good news is that there are only a few more before I’m done with it as a regular feature. After that point I’ll do them once in a while, but they just take too much time, and I’ve done what I can in that format. Time to flex my chops a little bit, and draw something that doesn’t look like I scribbled it out before coffee, which is pretty much what I do. So! To the future! But for now: (back) to the drawing board!

BUT FIRST, because I love you, another one of the drawings I originally posted on Tumblr. I think this one’s my favorite, but I’m biased maybe. I do know that apparently castles are the most fun things to draw ever.

COMMISSION :: ONE HOUR DRAWING :: Happy President’s Day

A one-hour drawing, part of this series I’m doing. You can see all of them so far in this Flickr set.

COMMISSION :: ONE HOUR DRAWING :: It’s Pretty Fat Being Queen

A one-hour drawing, part of this series I’m doing. You can see all of them so far in this Flickr set.

COMMISSION :: ONE HOUR DRAWING :: There’s One Of These In Every Forest

A one-hour drawing, part of this series I’m doing. You can see all of them so far in this Flickr set.
